Super huge thanks to Disney for paying for my trip, and to learn why Disney’s Planes is so amazing.
Disney’s Cars found its way into our homes and hearts. Now we’re welcoming Disney’s Planes into our homes and hearts. There’s something about Disney; they always manage to have movies that are unforgettable. You grow up with them, and they become a part of your childhood memories—your child’s memoirs that they will carry forever and hopefully share with their little ones. There aren’t many people who can make a film like Disney, and now I know why!
They choose people like Clay Hall, director of Disney’s Planes, and Traci Balthazor-Flynn, producer, and they are able to work in a place like Disney Toon Studio. Which, for the record, is probably the only place I would go back to work for! It’s an amazing place, filled with some truly talented, fun, and proud people. Most of you probably read my post about my recent visit to Disney Toon Studios. While we were there, we had the opportunity to talk with Klay Hall and Traci Balthazor-Flynn, who both immodestly shared how much they enjoyed working on Disney’s Planes.
It wasn’t an easy task, and there were moments that were stressful, but Klay Hall and Traci Balthazor-Flynn always respected one another. They were both very proud of Disney’s Planes, which they should be if you haven’t seen it yet. You will love it! It’s another one of Disney’s films that will make its way onto your shelf.
So let’s talk about the interview. First, someone asked how Klay ended up being part of Disney’s Planes team. Did you know that originally, planes were supposed to be trains? Yes, before they came up with the idea for Disney Planes, they were thinking about doing something with trains. I think Trains would be an awesome addition to the Cars and Planes movies, don’t you? Just imagine all the fun one could have with trains. I know Disney would come up with something great!
Klay explained to us why he loved planes so much, and it was awesome learning the history behind his passion for not just planes in general, but planes in general. Come to find Klay comes from an aviation family, so it’s in his blood and something he has loved since he was a little boy. His love for Disney’s Planes really shines.
I think that was my favorite part, watching the two of them talk about the film. After 4 ½ years of all that hard work, personally, I’m glad that Disney’s Planes is already such a huge hit. With that much work and passion involved, it’s going to shine through in the movies. Which it doesn’t if you haven’t seen it!
Klay not only loved airplanes but also came to find out that his second passion was to draw. He was very grateful that he was able to be part of making planes. “To have those two worlds collide was unbelievable, a dream come true.“
There was a lot of travel research done for Disney’s Planes. It turns out they traveled to the midwest, New York City, saw JFK, traveled to Germany and India, and were at the Taj Mahal at sunrise and sunset. I’m not sure if they visited anywhere else; those were the places they mentioned, but most of the traveling was done in the United States.
They also told us that they had heard from several pilot organization commanders when they heard they were making planes. They wanted to see what they were doing, and they actually had two naval commanders and someone from the Department of Defense from the Pentagon show up.
Klay is very proud of the bonus features that Walt Disney Company was able to provide. I can understand why he was so proud. When you watch Planes, be sure to watch the bonus features. I don’t want to tell you too much, but watch it and you will understand. He and his sons get to share a very special moment, and it really touches your heart.
I had a blast learning more about Klay and Traci, and how much they loved what they did. It’s nice to have the opportunity to talk to the people on the other side of the fence, and see how appreciative they are that they were able to be part of something so magical.
If you haven’t had the chance to watch Disney’s Planes, I cannot recommend it enough. Disney’s Plans are available to fly into your home on November 19, 2013! GRAB IT!
