We recently added on to our home, it’s almost time to start thinking about home decorating ideas, and I am on the lookout for inspiration to get my creativity going. Honestly, I don’t think there is a special rule book that one must follow when looking for diy decorating tips or ideas for rooms in your home. Plus, I am also looking for a lot of décor diy ideas so we can stay under out budget.
DIY Room Decorating Tips Worth Considering
Rugs
Rugs look great and have a great way of adding warmth to any room. We have hardwood floors, but even when we had carpet floors, adding the right rug helped pull a room together.
Painting
Why not have a little fun painting and add bold, clean stripes to one wall in your bedroom. It’s also okay to play with paint when painting the color of your walls and setting the mood for your room, so giving them a fresh coat of paint or changing the colors can make all the difference in the world.
Cabinets
If you cannot afford new cabinets, give them a fresh coat of paint.
Lighting
Do you have a certain room in your home where you want to feel welcome? Good lighting is an easy way to make any room feel welcoming to family and friends and even more comfortable for the family.
Storage
Something I learned long ago is that when planning for storage, think big. Rather than making just enough room, plan ahead and make it bigger, because chances are you will need it later. It’s easier to have a little too much storage room than not enough. Plus, it leaves you with enough room to be organized.
Color
Add color to a small space, such as an office where you will be spending a lot of time. We recently added an office for me, and painting the walls bright colors made a huge difference. It’s better for taking pictures, easier to spend time in, and sets a better tone.
Be realistic
When considering colors, be realistic. If you have children, you are not likely going to want light-colored covers for the couches. Choose fabrics with your lifestyle in mind—they can take spills, are machine washable, etc.
Decals
Decals are an affordable way to get creative in any room. Whether it’s on your furniture, walls, or even on the tile in your kitchen, it’s a great way to enhance an area.
Sofa
Give your sofa a makeover by adding a premade slipcover and pillows.
Glass Bottles
Do you have old, stained glass bottles lying around? Use them to decorate a room in your home! They look great by a window or in the kitchen.
Shower curtain
A new shower curtain is an easy and affordable way to change the look of any bathroom. If you are able, adding a few rugs helps too.
Mirrors
Adding a mirror to a room will make it look bigger because it will reflect the surroundings. Plus, they look great, too.
Lampshades
Give your lampshades a new look by painting them.
Doors
Give your doors a new look and make them part of the décor too.
Plants
Adding plants and small accessories to your windowsill can give a room just the added color it needs. You transform old objects by painting them to match the room’s décor.

How does Roomations Work?
It’s actually super easy and totally cool! First, you will take a style quiz to help find your personal style profile! The quiz doesn’t have a ton of questions, and you can compare your results to those of friends if you want. Oh, and you don’t need to know any design lingo either. Next, upload pictures of your room and choose your designers. You can use a digital camera or your iPhone; there is no need to schedule an appointment for a designer to come to your home either! Upload your pictures to Roomations and answer a few questions (budget, measurements of the room, etc.). Then you will select your favorite room design. Each designer you select will give you stule boards, which you can use to pick your favorite design and turn it into an awesome 3D picture of what you want the room to look like. Then it’s time to go shopping, and thanks to Roomations, you will know exactly what you need to get that certain look in each one of your rooms.
