The New Year typically means many of us are trying to stick to our New Year’s resolution and maybe try to eat more fruits and vegetables. This year, mine is focused on my and my family’s health. I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to not only lead a healthy lifestyle but also teach my children how to lead a healthy lifestyle. While we eat fruits and vegetables, I will admit it’s an area I need to improve on, and I’m sure some of you can share this area of improvement with me. So I decided to share a few reasons to eat more fruits and vegetables as a reminder why fruits and vegetables play an important role in our health.
Reasons To Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
There are tons of reasons to eat more fruits and vegetables, and here are a few important reasons to consider adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet.
- Get a natural glow. You’ve heard that eating healthy gives your skin a natural glow, right? Veggies actually improve circulation, which means more blood flows to your skin’s surface, giving your skin that natural glow.
- Help prevent constipation. Okay, nobody wants to talk about constipation, but it happens to the best of us. Did you know that veggies contain natural fiber, which can help keep you regular?
- Give your body a boost. We all need a little extra energy to keep up with our busy lifestyles. Eating your fruits and veggies can give your body that much-needed boost of energy. Between all the fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in fruits and vegetables, your body should feel more energized and ready to handle the day.
- Watching your weight: For all of you who are watching your weight, fruits and veggies are great! They are low in fat and calories and loaded with fiber. Plus, fruits are an excellent way to get that sugar that you might be craving without reaching for a candy bar. When I’m craving something sweet, I turn to fruits!
- Lower risk of chronic diseases: Eating more fruits and veggies might just help lower your risk of certain cancers, strokes, and even heart disease. Be sure you are eating plenty of vegetables.
- You can even eat more fruits and vegetables when you eat out. As long as you choose wisely when you eat out, getting fresh veggies shouldn’t be difficult. My husband and I like to meet for lunch at our local Subway because we love their handcrafted sandwich combinations. Subway is the only place in my area where we can create our own custom sandwich or salad, which, did you know, can add about two extra servings of vegetables to your diet? That’s over 40% of the American Heart Association’s daily recommendation! Is that cool or what?

I know they are good for you but I am the worst at eating fruits and vegetables. I like fruits better than vegetables but I do try to eat like peas and corn.
I have been eating a lot more veggies this month. I have to say I feel amazing! I have stopped eating grains and sugar. I am just amazed by how great my stomach feels. I have a lot of tummy issues, and this new “diet” has been such a blessing.
That is so awesome it’s amazing what veggies can do for our body!
