With four children I am always looking for ways to save money, and saving energy at home is one of the easiest ways to save money. If you are looking for ways to save energy at home, so you can save money, here are some energy-saving tips to help you reduce your home energy consumption to save a little money.
Eighteen Easy Ways To Save Entergy and Save Money This Summer
If you are looking for ways to save energy and save money this summer, here are a few easy way to accomplish both.
Switch your fans
It’s that time of year! Change your ceiling fans to turn counter-clockwise during the summer months, you will turn them back when it gets cool again.
AC Filters
Change your AC filters monthly to keep your system running smooth.
Close windows and doors
When you are running your AC, keep your windows and doors shut tightly. Save money by keeping the cool air inside, you’ll never cool off your front yard, lol. Check the kid’s rooms, and be sure their windows are shut, and locked for safety reasons.
Vents
Close vents that are not being used, and room doors which do not need to be cooled.
Plant trees, it will take a few years, but they will help keep your house cooler.
Outside lights
Rather than keeping your outside light on, purchase a motion detector light for all your outdoor lighting.
They may cost more, but they last longer, and use less energy. When buying light bulbs pay attention to energy use, and length bulb lasts.
Insulation
Be sure your house is insulated well. It will help hold in the cool air.
Windows
Cover windows where afternoon sun comes in.
Awnings
Use outside awnings to help keep the sun from beating down into your windows.
Filters
Change or clean the filters on your AC unit to keep them running great.
Turn off lights
If you are not in a room, turn the lights off. Help teach other family members to do the same.
Electronics
Turn all electronics that are not being used.
Drying laundry
Try to keep your drier form warming up load after load. Wash 1 load, and when the 2nd one is done start the 1st load in the dryer so it is consistently running. This should keep your drier running, and warm while you are doing laundry.
Hang dry
During the warmer months avoid drying laundry. Hang dry blankets, sheets, and any clothing you are comfortable hang drying.
Cold water
Avoid using hot water while washing clothing. Use cold water, to save money on your electric bill, and conserve energy.
Use the grill
Its almost summer, try cooking out on the grill more and running your oven and stove less often.
Thermostat
Get an automatic thermostat, like Honeywell’s Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat.

Oh, and who can forget the Wi-Fi remote access, control and you can control it from anywhere, thanks to Honeywell’s app you can program your thermostat from your computer, smartphone, or tablet whether yo are at work or on vacation.
I was a little worried about setting up the thermostat, because my husband normally does all of that stuff, but WOW it was super easy, and I have been in love with it since. All you have to do is program each day, to fit your schedule. So if you are not home on wed, you can tell your thermostat. If your schedule is the same Monday – Friday, you can easily schedule multiple days with the same schedule. It’s EASY!

Another awesome feature is the smart response that learns your heating and cooling cycle times to help deliver the perfect temperature when you need it. Advanced fan helps to control air circulation, and regulate the temperature in your home. Want to know your indoor humidity? Great, it’s located on the thermostat under the temperature.
Auto alerts ROCK! Connected devices are displayed on your thermostat, and extreme temperature alerts, as well as filter changes are sent to connected devices. You’ll never guess if you need to change your filter again.
There of course needs to be an app, which is easy to use, and back by Honeywell’s reliable network. You can get the app on all iOs and Android devices.
