Special thanks to the wonderful people at Premier Care for sponsoring this blog post – 15 Easy & Affordable Tips For a Safer & More Comfortable Home, and helping us have a safer more comfortable home, and provide all of us with a more comfortable walk-in bathtub and showers.  Be sure to swing by their website here, and learn more about everything they have to help make your home safer and more comfortable for your and your family as time goes by.

We buy a house, and turn it into a home, we mold it, find makeover ideas for small bathrooms (that new walk-in bathtub might work), watch our children grow up in it, grow up some ourselves, and make our home more comfortable as they years pass.  Naturally, we want our home to be both safe and comfortable, but that doesn’t mean we have to spend our retirement making our home safer and more comfortable.  There are plenty of practical and affordable ways to make your home safer and more comfortable, and make that small bathroom feel a little larger.

We’re all looking for ways to make our home safer and more comfortable, especially if it can be done without costing an arm and a leg.  My husband and I have remodeled, and I have learned a few ways to make your home safer and more comfortable, without breaking the bank.  However, it’s important to remember there are always a few items that are worth paying for when your safety and comfort are involved.

Try new things – Don’t be scared to try new things.  Move furniture around, do research, look for great ideas online, and have fun with it.  You’ll find something that works for every room in your house, even your small bathroom if you’re willing to get a little creative and explore!

Bedding – Get a great bed!  We spend about 20% of our daily life sleeping it only makes sense that we’re comfortable.  Some people like soft beds while others enjoy a firm mattress, get yourself a comfortable mattress so you can sleep well at night.  Oh, and while you’re at it, get some nice bedding too.  It’s been my experience when I wake up feeling rested, and like the area I wake up in, I have a better day.  It sets my tone for the day.  A nice bed might cost a little money, but it will last you for years to come.

quotes about homeHave some fun with color – It’s your house, with your furniture so have fun with it.  Be creative, and give your room some color.  Soft pastels are always good, but bright colors can add some spice to any room.  It all depends on what you like, and what mood you want each room to put you in.  If you’re looking for a simple, clean look earth colors, off whites and light browns tend to do well. If you’re rederating one of the easiest, cheapest ways to add something to a room is to paint the walls.  Color can give a room energy, inspire creativity, enhance your mood, and help to decide your mood or behaviors while you’re in the room – so have fun –

Wall decals – There are some fun wall decals if you’re in the mood to put something on your wall that comes off super easy.  It’s and easy and affordable way to add something fun to any room, whether it’s a small design, or pretty flowers it’s all about making your home more comfortable.

Pictures – In my opinion you cannot go wrong with artwork.  Even if it’s a watercolor the kids painted, put that bad boy in a frame, and if the yellow matches the kitchen it’s artwork for the kitchen, and it means something.

Dead bolts – It’s a good idea to have dead bolts on your doors, and to keep them locked when you’re home and when you’re away.  Everyone has cell phones now, there’s not really a reason you should have unexpected company. You don’t need one on every door, just all door that go outside.

Alarm – If you want to make your home safer and protect it from burglars, get an alarm system.  They’re super affordable, and you can even install them yourself, have a family member help, or even a friends.

Smoke Alarms – You can have this feature added to most alarm systems, but if you choose not to, be sure your home has smoke detectors.

home quotesClutter – Get rid of clutter, if you have not used it or worn it in a year, chances are you’re not going to.

Couch or recliner pull over – Keep a nice pull over on the pullover on your couch, recliner or whoever you sit most.  It’s perfect for those evening when you’re watching a movie and it gets cold, or you just want something to cover up with because it make you feel coy.

Lighting – Oh, yea there is room where you want the sun to shine in and others where you’re going to want something much softer.

Laundry room – Typically our washer and dryer last us years and years, the next time you purchase one you might want to consider front-loading washers, dryers, and dishwashers.  Just like the walk-in bathtub – they’re great for anyone, and will help you save money later down the road.

Bathroom – The bathroom can be one of the easiest rooms in your house to make feel comfortable.  However, I think everyone has his or her own idea of comfortable.  For me I want our small bathroom to look larger.  So I turn to lighter colors, get rid of the clutter, and get a new walk in bathtub.  Yes, a walk in bathtub, not only are they great for EVERYONE, it would be perfect for my handicap son.  My husband and I have looked for something that would work for him since he is getting older.

Accept that nothing’s going to be perfect – The hardest part for some of us is accepting the fact that we’re going to have laundry in the hamper, dishes in the sink and our bed might not be wrinkle free, but you know what?  It’s going to be okay!  I’m not saying let things stack up, rather don’t stress the small stuff, and remember it’s those small things that make your home feel lived in, and it can be comfortable!  In my opinion, accepting small things like a few clothes in the hamper is much more comfortable than stressing, and spending my evening doing a ¼ load of laundry, or trying to get every wrinkle out of a bed I’m going to crawl into in a few hours anyway.  Let it go, and live comfortable!
