My laundry room is the catchall for everything from softball gloves the girls are not using, winter jackets that are no longer being worn, backpacks, shoes, and then there are the items that belong in the laundry room – piles of dirty clothes, laundry soap, etc. If someone is not sure where something goes, it gets put in the laundry room. Good news is that you can keep your laundry room organized, along with other small spaces with a little work and TLC.
Eight Tips To Help You Organize Your Laundry Room
If you are looking for a few tips to help you organize your laundry room or other small spaces in your home be sure to check out these few tips.
Spring Cleaning
First you are going to have to do it – downsize. It’s likely you have items in your laundry room you can do without – toys, jackets, shoes, and other items that seem to migrate to the laundry room. I try to remember if I have not used it, or forgot about it for longer than a few month chances are you are not going to use it ever again, or will not miss it. Don’t be scared, get rid of it if you are not using it.
Separate, Separate, Separate
If your laundry room allows you separate your laundry before washing. Have others living in the home separate laundry, as well. This is a huge time saver, plus it helps to eliminate those unwanted items in the laundry. I do not know about you, but if I allow my kids to put a pile of clothes in the laundry room there is toys, papers, and other odd things mixed it with their dirty laundry, lol If they have to sort, it helps eliminate those strange kid items in the laundry room.
Another option is to have everyone keep a laundry basket in their bedroom until it’s time to do laundry. They can then sort it before washing.
Iron
I do not iron often, but I iron enough to wish I had a wall iron. We are currently adding on to our home, next on the list will be remodeling our bathroom, and I have a wall iron on the list. It will save space, and be easy to access when I need to iron.
Simple Is Good
Keep things simple, and only keep the necessities. If you want to get organized you are going to need to get rid of all items that do not belong in the laundry room. My daughter likes to keep her baseball uniform in the laundry room.
Caddies Are A Gals Best Friend
I love caddies! They are a great way to keep yourself organized, and still have something that looks great. I store my cleaning supplies in, and when I need to clean I grab the caddy and carry it around with me. The caddy fits perfectly on most wire, and can be used just about anywhere to help keep your organized, your space looking fabulous, and they fit nicely on most wire shelves too.
Shelves
I don’t know what I would do without shelves in not only my laundry room, but my pantry, closets, and other areas of the house. They help give items in my house a home. There are several different types of shelves. When I get in the mood to organize my laundry room or any other small space it’s typically spirit of the moment, so I run to the store and purchase wire shelves. The cool thing about using wire shelves is that you can dress them up too.
