Are you jumping in and doing your part to be green and eco-friendly?ย My family has been working hard on becoming greener.ย From coming up with creative ideas to reuse items rather than tossing them, unplugging lights and other electronics around the house, buying recycled products, recycling more as a family, and even cleaning greener too,.ย Going green is important; it means spending a little extra each day on something that will benefit the wonderful world we live in and that we will leave behind for our kids.ย If you have been considering going green but donโt know where to start, let me share a few tips and tell you how we first started to go green.
Ways To Go Green and Live Eco-Friendly
Add Recycling Bins To Your Home and Place of Work
If you want to go green and become a more eco-friendly household, recycling is a great place to start.ย Once you have your recycling bins up and get used to which product goes into which bin, itโs easy, and you are helping make a difference.
Carpool
If you travel any distance to work, consider carpooling with a few people who live in the same direction.ย Itโs not only eco-friendly to travel with others; I have found chatting with co-workers on the way to work can be a great way to start the day.
Walk, Don’t Drive
If itโs close enough to walk, do it!ย Donโt start up that car; rather, put on some comfy shoes, get some exercise, and smile because you are beginning to lead a more eco-friendly life.ย Plus, think of all the benefits of walkingโฆ Maybe itโs time to start that new diet?
Unplug or turn it off.ย
If you are not using it, unplug! Turn off lights and electronics that are not being used.
Laundry
Rather than using hot water when washing laundry, use cold water.ย Of course, there are loads that require hot water, but be careful and donโt wash anything in warm or hot water that doesnโt need it.
Turn off that AC ย
Turn that AC off on cool days and nights, open up some windows and enjoy the fresh air rather that blasting the AC.ย My husband and I find it relaxing to lay in bed with the cool outside breeze blowing in the window, and its green.
Get Creative and Reuse Rather Than tossing Out
Rather than tossing things out, try to reuse them. ย Let the kids turn something old into something new, jump online and look for creative ways to reuse.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
Yes, you can clean green too with products like Clorox’s eco-friendly Natural All-Purpose Cleaner. In my opinion, purchasing eco-friendly cleaning products has been one of the easiest ways to become a more eco-friendly family.ย Plus, I am not stressed because the products I am using are filled with nasty toxins that I donโt want to be around, much less have my kids around.ย Rather than using those old products that are filled with who knows what anymore, think green.ย CALM downโฆ I thought the same thing.ย What about my precious Clorox?ย I have to admit I hated the old smell, but it is the one product that I know is going to do its job.ย Plus, there is nothing like a Clorox-clean home.ย You walk in, and you can smell the clean air.ย Donโt you worry, Clorox Green Words will keep your home nice and clean too!
Yes, if you did not know, Clorox has gone green too.ย We have been using Cloroxโs eco-friendly products for several months; they work great and, in my opinion, smell better.ย While I have tried several of Cloroxโs eco-friendly cleaning products, I have one that I never go without; it does too much around my house to go without: Green Works Natural All-Purpose Cleaner.

I totally agree with everything up to the green products you listed. After doing some research, I found that those products are not as green as they claim, its mostly a marketing ploy so they don’t lose customers. i will stick with my apple cider vinegar, baking soda, washing soda, essential oils, hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, and organic liquid castille hemp soaps. and I know the clean isnt just green, it is actually improving our health too.
and, still having a problem with the light pink text on the light pink background within these comment boxes. its impossible to see what we type, so still typing blind here.
This article has some wonderful ideas! Thank you for posting it!
Thank you for the advice & tips!
I always unplug electronics when Im not using it to save energy. Thank you for the review on Green works all purpose cleaner.
We have been doing all that stuff for years. It seems funny that companies are just starting to pick up on it.
Those are great tips… we do most of those things. I wish we could leave windows open on nice days like today. but with my allergies…. forget it!
Make it a habit to wipe up all spills immediately when they are much easier to clean. Once the spill has dried and hardened, it will be more difficult to remove……Most of the residential maid services hired usually keep in mind such small tips to make the house clean….Switch off all the electrical appliances after use this is what we can do to save energy…..Save earth…Our home…
Great ideas. I just wish I could get my daughter to turn off those lights! She seems to have a mental block against doing that!
I always love reading articles on going green, they help me stick to my green goals! I just need to get a bike so I can leave my car at home most of the time!

Thank you for posting this awesome article. More awesome and cheap cleaners are white vinegar and baking soda.
I love the remark about using eco friendly cleaning products. I also found that when we switched from commercial cleaning products that are chemically loaded, that I had far fewer asthma issues.
I am so happy when I see posts on eco-friendly cleaners. I wish everyone would be aware of what chemicals do to our bodies. I recently started selling microfiber cloths that clean with water, no more chemicals for my family.
