What goes into putting together elements in order to create a beautiful space? Here are top dos and don’ts and some tricks and ideas to help you get started.

8 Decorating Secrets Revealed

1. Don’t get clichéd with design

If you’re looking for a crisp timeless design, do not give in to the obvious; rather opt for balanced and restrained elements to shape your home. For example if you live by the sea, it is not necessary that you have to put up wall brackets made up of sea shells. Most people go overboard when designing their home according to a particular theme or based on their surroundings and unfortunately it begins to resemble a theme park. For a beach style home, opt for a savvy sandy palette and take inspiration from Spanish-style homes to present an implicit appearance rather than being loud and explicit. By doing that, you will be designing a beautiful home that will not be a source of embarrassment to you in 20 years.

2. Try mixing different kinds of design styles

By blending subtle materials with luxurious elegance is surely modernistic approach to building a great design for your home. For example, the dining room can have slipcovered chairs in washable vinyl, surrounding an imposing antique walnut wood table with intricate designs and a solid feel. Here, an antique table made out of solid wood is appropriate in a dining setting because it does not have an intimidating surface. If food gets spilt or flatware drops onto the table, it can be easily maintained, without worrying about the surface getting scarred for life.

3. Bundle artwork on the walls

Walls displaying grouped, framed pieces present a powerful and durable impression, like in the main room for the family. For example, four or six prints can be hanged in a grid over the family room couch or lounge that gives a solid impact of having a wall with a large piece of art.

4. Where necessary, skimp if possible

Are you looking to remove the clutter from a room? Redecorating for less is a brilliant idea, as skimping out on specific details can make the room appear more airy and welcoming, rather than a highly crowded room with too many pieces of furniture and upholstery. For example a smart alternative to conventional long curtains are balloon shades. These help in building a romantic aura in a master bedroom, while the best part is that they are not only affordable but also require much less fabric per window.

5. Small spaces should not be divided

In order to create a larger appearance to a small space, try blending the fabric in one shade rather than visually chopping it in separate colors or shades.

6. Soft palettes for serene spaces

If you are looking to create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere throughout your home, opt for quiet neutrals and monochromatic shades. These not only help in keeping the mood peaceful but also help in blending large pieces of furniture into the walls.

7. Make use of side tables

Snug spaces within a home make it look happier and warmer. If you’re looking for the key to get it right, ensure that every lounge or sofa in your home has a side table attached to it.

8. Make the best use of small spaces

If you are looking to buy your dream home, but you’re dissuaded just because it has a tiny kitchen, do not let it stop you from buying it. You can make the most of the small space in the kitchen by building cabinets all through to the ceiling. Incorporate glass fronts in order to make it easier for you to locate specific items. Also, you can build deep drawers in place of low cabinets.

I love mixing and matching and love making my own drapes and cushions so I change the room up often by doing things like that.I also love the clean open look though too so I try to keep things decluttered.
