I’m excited to share My Military and Money App with you!
I have always thought school should teach a money management class! Working at the bank, I meet so many 20-year-old kids, who had no idea what credit was, how to balance a checkbook, much less made good financial decisions. It’s not something that is known, it’s something that needs to be taught, it’s a much-needed life skill. How are these kids entering the world on their own for the first time supposed to understand how important it is to manage your finances if nobody every talks to them about it? Looking back, I didn’t think it was important, and it’s because nobody had the conversation with me, and I spent years correcting my bad financial choices once I realized how important it was.
When I was first starting out life as an adult, I had no idea how important credit was, or how much I would need it later in life. About the time I was ready to start taking life serious, is when it hit me – CREDIT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! I spent years budgeting, and trying to fix my credit so I could move on to the next stage of my life feeling good about myself!
How I wish My Military and Money App would have been around then, because it has so much great information for budgeting, credit cards, savings, retiring, home buying, and deployment.
Members of our military and their loved ones deal with challenges some of us cannot understand – deployments, moves, and you know that can put a strain on finances. My Military and Money App is great for helping with basic daily live budgeting, it has great resources and tools to help users make a more informed decision about their financial life.
I have family who is serving in the military as well as several uncles and an aunt who have severed our country. Every single day I am thankful for the men and women who serve and protect our country, as well as their families because they have it hard too. Regardless of what anyone things, they service along them. There are so many reasons to love and appreciate our veterans, men and women serving, and their families.
I have several cousins, and friends who are serving in the military, and two of my dear friends have husbands who are deployed. I’m going to admit, for everything members of our military do, in my opinion they don’t make enough. They have an important job, and do so much. One of my friends often comes to me for money advice. She’s trying to put money away for their baby, wants to set some back for her husband and herself, but still have enough to make ends meet – especially while her husband is deployed.

My friends assume I have the answers when it comes to financial advice, because I worked at the bank for so many years. Gosh, I wish I did. I give advice, but I am by no means a financial adviser. My advice is always to come up with a plan, starting out with a 1-year plan, but planning all the way to 10 years. My husband and I have a 10-year plan, and when making out plan we consider –
Income – How much we’re currently making, and honestly I under-estimate a couple $100 to be on the safe side. Honestly, I would like to say we’ll be doing better in 5 years, but who knows.
Expenses – Naturally, what bills do you have, and do you see any others coming?
Short-term goals – Savings? Paying down credit cards? Focus on one bill at a time, or you’ll get overwhelmed. Plus, you don’t want to break yourself paying down debt.
Long-term goals – Without goals how do you know where you’re going, and what the end of the road looks like.
How – Now for the hard part! How are you going to do it? Will you open a savings account next week? How much will you start with? How often, and so on.
Basically, getting to the nuts and bolts of things and making a commitment to yourself and your spouse.
I’ve always been one for a notebook and pencil, but times have changed and I’m loving that we have computers, tablets, laptops, smartphones, and awesome apps like My Military & Money App!
