Getting stainless steel to shine can be a bit of work. However, we are confident that with these hacks, you’ll have your stainless steel sparkling in no time. Huge thanks to our friends at Viva Towels for sponsoring this post and helping us get our stainless steel sink shining again.

If you have stainless steel, I am sure you’d agree. It is beautiful when it’s shiny and clean, but keeping it that way can be a task. I have tried a few different things over my life to keep it sparkling. Here are a few ideas to help you get your stainless steel sparkling.

Great Tips To Help Your Stainless Steel Shine

Great DIY Tips To Help You Clean Stainless Steel

First, it’s an excellent idea to clean or spot clean your stainless steel.  However, if your stainless steel item is free of grime, grease, etc., you can skip this step, but you should still wipe it off to remove any dust.

Yuck, look at that nasty sink! Let’s make this bad boy shine; it’s a beautiful sink when it’s all clean.

Looking to remove grease and grime from your stainless steel? Chances are you have dish soap and hot water, which is where you’ll start. This is great to do after you’ve just finished washing dishes and your sink is still full of soapy hot water.

Start off by wiping down the entire sink with the soapy hot water. Next you’ll use a handy and super easy cleaner you probably have at your house now.

This is the bomb diggity, seriously, I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

  • White Vinegar Cuts grease, disinfects, and deodorizes
  • Coconut Oil—I don’t know what I would do without it.  I love the stuff and at times use it to take off my eye makeup, clean, and, of course, cook.  You can use coconut oil for all sorts of things—lip balm, moisturising bath, hydrating skin, cleaning makeup brushes, using in place of shaving cream, getting gum out of hair, carpet and beyond, conditioning items made of wood (furniture, spoons, etc.), getting rid of squeaks, and tons more.
  • Paper towels: – To wipe down and shine your sink. I used Viva®Vantage® Strong Scrubs Paper Towels to wipe down my sink, and the Viva® Strong & Soft Paper Towel gave my sink added shine while drying it off.
  • Spray Bottle

Let’s make that stainless steel shine, shall we?

Ensure that you have gone over the appliance with the soap and water mixture mentioned above.  If stainless steel is free of grease, grime, and yucky stuff, you can skip and start using the homemade stainless steel cleaner.

spraying sink with spay bottle

Pour vinegar into the spray bottle and liberally spray your appliance, or in this case sink, with the white vinegar.

To give my little extra scrub after spraying it with vinegar, I used Viva®Vantage® Strong Scrubs Paper Towels and wiped it down really well in a circular motion.

When you are finished, you should notice it’s starting to get a bit of the shine back.  Well, don’t stop now, I promise it gets much better than this!

soft paper towels for cleaning

You don’t have to use a Viva® Strong & Soft paper towel for this, but if you have ever used them, they are super soft and perfect for the job. .

coconut oil on paper towel

Put a small amount of coconut oil in the corner of the paper towel and apply coconut oil in circular motions with a bit of pressure to work in the coconut oil.  Go to the entire sink or appliance, leaving behind a light coat of the oil.

Grab a new paper towel and polish the stainless steel going with the grain.  This will give it some extra shine and make it look fabulous!

DIY Stainless Steel Cleaned & Polish

If needed, you can grab a fresh paper towel and go over the sink one last time and polish. Sure did make my sink shine like new.

My kitchen appliances have been looking really dirty lately and, because they are stainless steel, it has been a struggle to keep them clean. However, I really hope that your DIY stainless steel cleaner will be able to help me out. Yet, I have never heard of using coconut oil for cleaning before and so I am excited to try that out. However, could I use vegetable oil instead? I’m only asking that, because I don’t have any coconut oil in my house.

Great DIY. Vinegar is a great product for so much. Do you use bicard? That’s also great.
