Another amazing interview while I was in LA for the Red Carpet Premier for Delivery Man was with Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders. A super big thank you to Disney for paying for my trip up there and allowing me to come back and share my opinions with my valued readers.
While I loved the interview with Vince Vaughn that I wrote about last week, sitting down with Chris Pratt (Brett) and Cobie Smulders (Emma) from Delivery Man was a treat. If you haven’t already, be sure to read 8 Interesting Things About Vince Vaughn and Red Carpet Premier for Delivery Man posts.
Things I Learned About Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders
Being a parent, I loved the movie; it’s one I can relate to. Interviewing Cobie Smulders and Chris Pratt was kind of the same experience. It gave us a chance to sit down and see them as everyday people like you and me, rather than huge stars you’ll only see on TV. In Delivery Man, Cobie Smulders plays Emma; she plays David’s (since Vaughn’s) girlfriend, and she really just wants him to grow up. She’s an incredibly talented woman, and I loved watching her in Delivery Man, but I wish I would have seen more of her. Chris Pratt plays Brett, who is David’s bestie, and, he’s super funny, in a dry kind of way, which makes it even better. I really couldn’t get enough of Brett; he was great!
Delivery Man made it to the big screen over the weekend; if you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out. I personally loved it, and I loved that I was able to relate to the emotions David felt. Delivery Man has a great story line, lots of laughs, is heartfelt, and is all around a good movie. I took my husband and oldest daughter to go see it over the weekend, and they both loved it.
Fun Things I Learned in Cobie Smulders Interview for Delivery Man
- When Cobie first walked into the room, her energy was high. She was really excited and asked us where we were from. She was very rude and asked if we were going to watch Delivery Man, and I learned several really great things about Cobie. Chris was running a little late, so we got started without him, but it’s okay because we went to really see how awesome Cobie was. She’s so fun, and she just goes straight with her answers. She’s nice, but I just really felt like she was honest and heartfelt, and she really just said it how it was. I really liked that about her, and I don’t know why, but I pictured her as kind of quiet.
- She was excited to have the chance to shoot a movie in Brooklyn. I think I agree with her, the movie being filmed in New York did a lot of justice, it really was a huge part of the movie.
I think at one time we were looking at shooting the film in New Orleans, but I feel that the city of New York is such a strong character in our movie, and it just adds so much to it, visually, and it also just makes it so much fun to shoot. I mean, you’re in Brooklyn, and instead of going to get your coffee at a craft service, you go to, like, a local coffee shop and have a cup of coffee. It’s just made everything much more fun.
- Being a mom affected her role. She plays a pregnant woman with a very unreliable partner, and she pulls it off really well. She’s really just trying to figure things out, and I think she wants things to be a certain way since it’s her first child. I think Cobie did a great job playing a first-time mommy to be with an unreliable partner, who she later finds out is the father of 533 kids.
This movie is really all about parenting. It’s all about what it takes to be a parents so I automatically connected with that.
- She enjoyed working with Vince and had nothing but amazing things to say about it. Basically, if you’re a Vince Vaughn fan, you will not be disappointed because he’s really all that and a bag of chips. She was a little nervous about working with Vince, but she said that he was amazing and everything you would expect him to be.
He’s everything that you would expect him to be. Super funny, super quick. He’s so supportive, considerate, and very charming. He really goes out of his way to put everyone at ease on set and set the tone for everybody.
- We cannot go without talking about their favorite part in the film, can we? Cobie has a part with Vince at the end of the film; it’s a really long scene. If you have seen the movie, you probably already know what I am talking about. Haha, it’s this speech; things start unraveling, and well, he’s… I cannot say because if you haven’t seen it, YOU NEED to.
- What did Cobie like best about the move? She said she was moved by David and the way he reconnected with his children for the first time. She enjoyed the way the story was written and the senses were played out. Which I honestly liked too. It was fun to see the way David reconnects with each of his children, how they are different, and the relationship they end up building. I found it to be a touching story.
Things I learned In Our Chris Pratt Interview for Delivery Man:
- He’s very handsome, just like you would expect him to be. He’s also charming and very smart. I loved that he talked about his wife and child as much as he did. It’s always great to see that, especially with a movie like Delivery Man.
- Chris had just had his son when they were doing the movie, so he was pretty young. Being a new father, he was still in gaga over his son, and he plays a character who’s about to lose control with his kids, lol. There were two totally different worlds, but he was able to bring them together and use the fact that he was bummed out in his favor. The fact that he was away from his son was something he was able to use in the movie. It shows; he does an amazing job being a stressed-out daddy, lol. Oh, and lawyer, I really love Chris’s role in the movie.
My son had just been born when I was doing this movie. I think he was maybe two months old. For me, I wasn’t necessarily able to relate to my character’s journey as a father in this movie because he’s so overwhelmed with the idea of being a father. I was still finding every little, tiny thing endlessly fascinating about my own son. But I did miss him a lot, and so there were moments in the performance where I needed to just stare off into space and think about something that bummed me out. The fact that I was away from him was something that I could go to if I needed to.
- Oh, and if you didn’t already know Chris put on some weight for his part in the film. Basically he gained the weight by doing the complete opposite of what people do to gain weight. His wife was also in pregnant so they indulged in things they wouldn’t normally eat, and he didn’t even have to feel guilty about it. Awesome right. Losing the weight took him seven or eight months! Oh, FYI he gained SEVENTY pounds for the movie!
Well, I really applied all of the principles of losing weight and just reversed them.
- Chris had nothing but good things to say about Vince Vaughn too, they both agreed on the fact that anyone who is a Vince Vaughn fan wouldn’t be disappointed.
He’s beloved by people, his fans, and people because he just seems real. You know a regular guy, and I think he’s everything you would hope that he would be if you’re a fan of his. He’s not like some Hollywood A-hole. He’s no nonsense when it comes down to doing work; he does work and makes sure everyone around him does good work, and that’s important as the captain of the ship. At the same time, he’s charming, caring, and polite to everyone, from the people on his weight staff to restaurants to fans and strangers on the street who approach him. He gives a little bit of himself to people.
You know we couldn’t finish the interview without taking a group picture, right? If you haven’t been to the big screen yet, you can catch Delivery Man. It came out this weekend. I have watched it twice and enjoyed it both times. Be sure to check it out, or if you want to learn more, you can read my Delivery Man Review.
