blahblahsponsorYucky germs, nobody wants them, and one of the best ways to protect ourselves from them is to keep our hands clean, but how do you get kids to develop good hand washing habits?  Getting your kids to wash their hands regularly, or to use PURELL® Advanced Hand Sanitizer when soap and water isn’t available can seem like a never-ended battle, but with persistence and creativity maintaining good hand washing or sanitizing habits can be formed.  If you make washing hands fun for kids they are more likely to turn a dreaded chore into a fun habit.

If you are looking for way to get your kids to wash their hands here are hand washing tips to make washing hands fun for kids.

Sing a song

We have a washing your hands song, it’s crazy, fun, and even has a little shaking of the hips!  My kids love to sing and dance, if they had it their way we would go for a 2nd round on the song and dance.

Do it

If you want them to keep their hands clean they need to see you do it too.  Lead by example, if your kids see you wash your hands they are more likely to keep their hands clean.

Reward Chart

Set up a chart, and every time your kids wash their hands, or use hand sanitizer they get a star or check mark.  Once they reach a certain amount of washes, or use hand sanitizer they get a reward.

Let Them Decorate Their Footstool

If they cannot easily reach the sink, buy them a footstool so they can wash their hands without any help.  If you children are anything like mine, they will love the independence, and will appreciate it if you let them decorate their own footstool.

Rubber Duck

My daughter loves to let her rubber ducky float around in the sink while she washes her hands.  She lets the sink fill up while she is washing and watcher her ducky slowly go up with the water.

White towel test

I know, white and kids is a huge NO, but if you allow them to use a wet towel and see all that dirt it helps them have a better understanding of why we wash our hands.  My youngest daughter is a hand-washing freak because of this.

Explain Germs In a Fun Story

Talk to them, tell them about germ, what they are, and how we protect ourselves from them.  Kids understand, and have likely seen a germ commercial so they picture germs as big, yucky things.  Make sure they know they need to wash their hands, or use hand sanitizer like PURELL® to keep them off.  You can also tell them a fun little story about germs so they have a better understanding of why hand washing is important

Hand Washing Tips To Make Washing Hands Fun For Kids!Hand Sanitizer, Have it!

Let’s face it we cannot carry soap and water in our handbag, and most kids LOVE hand sanitizer.  Did you know that studies have shown using PURELL® Hand Sanitizer, 3x a day for 30 day can actually help reduce your risk of getting sick! It’s a win-win situation when there isn’t soap and water around.

Turn your hand sanitizer into a lean mean germ fighting sanitizer

If you have followed for a while you might have read our post – Scared of the Dark? 5 Tips To Help Your Children Sleep Better At Night.  We had a tip about turning lavender spray into Monster Spray, and this one is very similar.  Since kids see TV commercials about germs, they likely know they are bad.  Why not make protecting himself or herself fun, turn sanitizer into “Germ Hanizier”, and make a cool fun label.  I will typically make the label, and act as if I bought it from the store so they know it’s the good stuff, lol. Which makes me feel good because I know it’s the good stuff, PURELL®

purell advanced hand sanitizerWOW, my kids love to play in the dirt, and rarely think about washing their hands.  Between my husband and I we must tell the kids to wash their hands 20 times a day.  Do you ever fight with your kids about washing their hands?

Did you know that studies have shown using PURELL® Hand Sanitizer, 3x a day for 30 day can actually help reduce your risk of getting sick!  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other leading health organization, proper hand hygiene is one of the most important preventive measures we can take to help reduce our risk of infection and illness. I don’t carry soap and water around in my handbag, but I do carry around a bottle of PURELL®, which in my opinion is the next best thing.  See when you don’t have soap or water around, you can use a hand sanitizer which contains at least 60% alcohol.  However, remember if your hands are visibly dirty it’s best to head for the bathroom and use soap and water, but the new PURELL® Advanced Sanitizing Wipes can also help remove dirt when you cannot find soap and water.
