As a mother my children come before anything! They matter more than anything, or anyone. Naturally, I want the best for my children, and I don’t mean the best shoes, or material things. I want to be the best mother I can for them, my husband to be the best father, I want them to get the best education, have the best teachers, and even watch the best educational programs on TV. If you follow me, you know I don’t’ watch TV, and allow my children little TV time, which is rarely on cable TV. Typically, I allow them to watch something educational on Netflix, Kidoodle.TV, or to pop in a DVD. Sure they get to watch fun show too, but for the most part, I want them to watch educational programs that help them learn something, and get them up and moving.
There is nothing better than watching your child’s eyes light up when they learn something new. There is also those times when you come home from the store to see your children are learning sign language from educational programs on Netflix. I am not even joking, my daughter started showing me all this cool stuff she learned. Of course, I had to ask, and Vayda took me in the living room and turned on Netflix, showed me the show they had been watching, and told me dad said it was okay. I had to tell them, it was a great show and I was very impressed. It was from a show called Signing Time on Netflix. My sister-n-law has her son watch it, and she just loves it. I had forgotten all about it, but the kids love it.
Signing Time is created by Rachel Coleman and her sister Emilie. It teaches children about sign language, features Rachel Coleman’s daughter Leah, who is deaf, and Emilie’s son, Alex. It’s a great show, Rachel Coleman was nominated for an Emmy for her work as host of the show, and she is a mommy of three. If anyone knows how to make learning fun, it’s Rachel Coleman, and she is brining something new and AWESOME to our children.
Why the new show? Screen time for children is increasing, but educational content is decreasing, and only 1 in 8 children’s show actually quality as “highly educational.” Sad, right. Well, Rachel wants to make a change, and bring our children something fun, yet “highly education” to watch. This new educational program is called Rachel & the TreeSchoolers, and we love it. Mattie and I watched 3 episodes on YouTube today, and my daughter LOVES it.
Rachel & the TreeSchoolers
Rachel & the TreeSchoolers is based on a complete preschool curriculum, which help prepare kids for kindergarten. It’s loads of fun, and actively engages children in learning with signs, games, dances, and songs. Rachel & the TreeSchoolers teaches children HOW to learn with CORI Method (wonder, ask, learn, share).
Now, get this! I don’t know about you, but have you ever heard of something being too educational? Rachel took the pilot episode to TV executives, and multiple studios turned it down because they said it was too educational? HUMM, I don’t know about you, but seriously I would like to be the one who decides if something is too educational for my children. I mean, it’s not like she is teaching a preschooler calculus, or asking them to write a 3 page report on the 4th president. Really, too educational, what does that mean anyway? Plus, we watched three episodes on YouTube, and my daughter was engaged, and learning 100% of the time.
I want to know, how my daughter being engaged and learning from 30 minute educational programs is too educational! She was learning where rain, thunder and lightning came from, in a fun way! She 100% understood everything, enjoyed the songs, was up moving, and even feels a little better about thunder and lightning now that she understands where it comes from.
Rachel & the TreeSchoolers On Kickstarter
Thankfully, Rachel like myself, and many of you disagreed, after all she is a mother too. She knew there would be other parents who would want their children watching truly educational shows. Rachel decided to take the show directly to families using Kickstarter, and families have funded 5 episodes in less than 30 days! There are even three new episodes funding now!
In 2013 it was Kickstarter Backers who helped make Rachel & the TreeSchoolers episodes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 reality. The campaign is to fun production of 3 more episodes of this fabulous show, which will be coming to DVD and a digital device near you.

Did you know that since 1996 TV broadcasters have only been required to air at least 2 hours of children’s education programming per week. Now, if that isn’t a joke! This is one of the major reasons my children do not watch TV, but it gets worse. 1 of every 4 educational shows are found to be minimally educational. While ONLY 1 in every 8 educational shows are considered to highly educational.
Delivering the Bare Minimum
- Since 1996, TV broadcasters have been required to air at least three hours of children’s educational programming per week.
- 1 of every 4 educational shows found to be minimally educational.
- Only 1 in every 8 educational shows was considered highly educational.
The best part is, WE CAN HELP! Let’s help make some highly educational shows, that our children not only love to watch, but help make them smarter too.
Rachel & the TreeSchoolers goal is to raise 200,000, and their deadline is on Saturday night, which does not leave us much time. As of now, they are only at 163,612, with 19 hours to go. You can be a backer, with only $1! Yes, every dollars counts, and it will make a difference in children’s lives. I do not allow my kids to watch “regular TV”, because there is too much junk on there, and it teaches them nothing, but how to pick their nose, and talk back to their parents. I want my children to watch something that actually teaches them something, gets them up and moving, and gets them actively thinking.
I support this program, and remember you can support this program with as little as ONE DOLLAR! If all you have is a dollar, I can guarantee your pledge will be appreciated, but most importantly, it will make a difference for our children.

I am sure you will agree, these are great programs, filled with tons of fabulous information, and your kids will probably love them as much as Mattie does.
