My kids love YouTube, but as a parent, I won’t lie; I don’t like them watching it without my knowing and approving of what they are watching. Finding kid-friendly content on YouTube can be a struggle. I’ve searched for kid-friendly content on YouTube, and the content that comes up isn’t always content I’d allow my children to watch.

To help ensure my kids are watching kid-friendly shows, I only let them watch using the YouTube Kids app, watch with them from time to time, and talk to them about the content they are watching.
One of my daughters favorite YouTube channels is Ellie Sparkles. It’s inspired a lot of laughs, creative play, and even a few teachable moments for this mom. However, I will be honest. After watching an episode of Ellie Sparkles with my daughter, I wasn’t sure what she found so exciting about the show. When I asked her, I realized that Ellie Sparkles is like review videos adults watch; expect way more fun and focus on kids. According to my daughter, Ellie Sparkles is the best because she always has fun, and it’s a toy game show.
After thinking about it, no wonder my daughter likes the show so much. Ellie Sparkles isn’t much different from my daughter. She likes to play with slime, orbeez, play-doh, opening LOL Surprises, playing with toys, and all the shows my daughter likes.
Ellie Sparkles takes kids on adventures and keeps them up to date with all the latest and greatest toys, surprises, and adventures. Kids can join the fun with Ellie Sparkles while she hosts the ultimate toy game show from her home in New York City. Man, I wish they would have had shows like this when I was a kid. I’ve watched several episodes with my daughter, and she is right: “Ellie Sparkles is just fun.” Not to mention she has saved me money, lol. One of my best teachable moments was thanks to Ellie Sparkle.
I worked in a bank for several years; teaching my kids how to manage money is important to me. I’m always looking for teachable moments, but I’ve learned that I have to wait until they are motivated enough to put them into play. Well, for Mattie, it’s toys she sees watching Ellie Sparkles play with! She loves it because she knows how they work and what they do before she gets them. Which is a plus if you ask me. I can think of several times I’ve bought toys for the kids, and they ended up disappointed because they didn’t do what they thought. So it saves me money too.
Rather than just buying her toys, I taught her about earning and saving up money for her toys. She still tells me all about the cool toys she wants, but rather than asking me to buy them for her, she asks me if I have any jobs she can do. We purchased a piggy bank, so she had a safe place to keep her money. She had to learn to put her money up the hard way. At first, she wanted to carry her money around with her, and she would misplace it before ever leaving the house. After losing it a few times, she learned why it is important to put money in a safe place until she is ready to spend it.
