It’s never an easy subject, bed wedding is not only worrisome for parents, but embarrassing for the child. I wish there was something we could do to help our children stop wetting the bed. Some magical word or something, but there isn’t.
As a mommy to four, we have experienced bed wetting. I also remember when I was younger I had an issue with wetting the bed. It wasn’t until I grew a little older I stopped. It was so embarrassing. I would not spend the night with family or friends, and anytime we had a family function my mom was amazing. She would wait until the very last moment, so nobody would know and put a big bulky diaper on me. It wasn’t fun, I hated it, but I was thankful my mom didn’t tell my secret.
Wetting the bed was so embarrassing for me when I was a child, as an adult I can talk about it because I know there is nothing wrong with me. It’s hard for children, stressful, and so embarrassing.
Bed-wetting can be challenging for the entire family, and so embarrassing for the little one. It’s stressful for children, as well as parents.
Tips To Help Your Child Stop Wetting The Bed
- None of these are a guaranteed fix for wetting the bed, but they might help.
- Nothing to drink before bed. Have your child drink most of their fluids during the day.
- Use the bathroom right before bed.
- Let your child know nothing is wrong with them.
- Don’t make them feel bad about themselves.
- Leave a light on so it is easy for them to wake up and use the restroom if they need it.
- Be sure to give your child a shower in the mornings so they smell clean and fresh.
- Check with the doctor just to be sure nothing is wrong.
- Don’t put them in a position they are not comfortable in like a friends sleep over.
- Most importantly do not make them feel bad and be supportive. Children already know they are not supposed to wet the bed. As a parent, it’s extremely important for us as parents to not show any signs of being upset, or stressed to our child, because it’s not their fault, and we don’t want them to think there is something wrong with them.
