Growing up my parents struggled, worse than I ever realized, but I never went without the necessities or didn’t know where my next meal was going to come from. I know, I’m blessed, because there are so many children out there who are not so lucky, parents who have had a run of bad luck. Things happen, but there is no reason any of us should not help a child have the things they need.
I try to donate as much time, money, food, clothing, and anything else I can because I know it does make a difference in someone’s life. When I was younger I didn’t realize how bad this little girl had it, but as an adult looking back my heart breaks for her.
We had these neighbors who were a little crazy. They liked to party, have guys move in, or live in their yard in an RV. It was totally nuts. I don’t want to live that way, and I always felt sorry for my best friend, because she would run away, and cry to me begging my parents to move in. She lived at my house, and her parents didn’t know she was gone for days. It was ridiculous, and I know it hurt her. I also know if it wouldn’t have been for my mom helping her, she woudn’t have gone to school with any lunch, had anything for dinner. A few years my mom even bought her school clothes.
I know my friend, to this day, remembers everything my mom did to make sure she didn’t go without, and she is so appreciative. I honestly had no clue, lol. I was just excited my friend got to stay with me all the time. It was awesome, lol. Once I got older, I started to see things for what they were, and things really hit home. Gosh, she was my best friend, and she never cried about it, talked about it, and nobody knew. I don’t think she wanted anyone to, because she just wanted to be a normal child with someone who cared. I think that is why she always ended up at our house. My parents to this day tell everyone she is their daughter, and my dad will be giving her away at her wedding. She loves them, just as much as they love her.
It’s heartbreaking to think there are children out there who simply do not have the resources needed to thrive. However, the plus side is that we can help, and make a difference! Do you ever remember a child going to school hungry, didn’t have school supplies, or other items they needed to be successful at school.
Remember, there are things we can do to help! Did you know that 3.3 million children were helped this year, that because of you, 27,000 organizations received donations? See, together we can make a difference and help those in need.

I’m also going to ask that you watch this video. Do you remember someone who didn’t have the things they needed as a child? It brings tears to my eyes knowing there are so many children out there dealing with this, but joy to my heart because I know we can help! I’m donating, and you can too! It doesn’t have to be a lot, because everything counts!!! The video is from the amazing people at Champions for Kids staff!
