I think it’s fair to say that we all learn better in a fun environment.  Which is why I am such a fan of LeapFrog and love the LeapFrog LeapReader Reading and Writing System.  I recently received the LeapFrog LeapReader Reading and Writing System for kids 4 to 8, but even my 15-year-old likes to listen to stories and jam out to music with it.

I was given the chance to host a LeapFrog LeapReader “Ready, Set, Read, & Write” party!  The party was a blast! Needless to say, I have been chomping at the bit to share the fun with you.  We had our party about 3 weeks ago. I apologize for the delay. We had something awful happen to a close friend of ours, but things have settled down now, and we are ready to share the fun with you.

I say it’s a pen, but it doesn’t write.  It is a magical reading device with volume controls, a headphone switch, and the ability to help kids read over 150 books and play a number of different educational games.  I cannot forget to mention that the LeapReaders holds up to 40 boosks, or 175 songs. WOW!  The LeapReader can be used to read by simply touching a page, sound out words, read sentences, trace numbers and letters, and write words with interactive guidance as the magical ink appears on the magical paper.  Yes, it’s seriously that neat.  Most importantly, all the kids loved it.  I had no idea how much my son with cerebral palsy (Bud) was going to love the LeapReader.  Let’s move on to the party!

The kids took turns trying out the LeapReader.  Vayda helped the group, and Mattie took off with her own set every chance she had.  I’m sure you will notice how all the kids are huddled around my son’s wheelchair. It’s because Mattie didn’t want to share.  Once Vayda pulled out the Monster University 3D book and glasses, the excitement really began.  Vayda let them all see the book and try on their glasses, and she read them the story.  Oh, sorry, the LeapReader Pen read the story; Vayda showed them how to use it and flipped the pages.  They also played with the flash cards.  They are really neat; my youngest daughter and I still use them every day when the other kids are at school.

All the moms huddled up and chatted about what an awesome device this was.  I shared the fact sheet I had received with them; the LeapReader was the highlight of the party.  Vayda also played the music that is on the pen; the kids loved that, especially my little dancer, Mattie.  It was also good to learn that the LeapReader Reading and Writing System works with most of the Tag books.  If you are not familiar with TAG, it’s LeapFrog’s previous reader system.

The kids and I also made a few snacks for everyone to munch on and green cupcakes for our party.  We figured it would be a nice finish to our LeapFrog LeapReader Party!  While the kids ate their cupcakes, Mattie saw the opportunity to grab a LeapReader pen and the 3D Monsters University Book and have it all to herself.  It’s not often she is willing to pass up a cupcake; that’s how I know she loves the LeapReader.

We had a blast; the kids all loved the LeapReader.  When the party came to an end, I decided to do what we bloggers do best and give one of our LeapReaders.  I was going to do a drawing of some kind, but after talking to one of the other moms, I decided to give it to her little girl.  Before the party, all the moms were asking how parent-teacher conferences went.  One of our family friends daughters was having a hard time with a few things in school.  After watching her daughter interact with the LeapReader, we noticed right away how much it was helping her.  So she won the LeapReader, which came with the book and USB.

All the kids loved their little awards for being awesome LeapReader Party guests and took an extra cupcake for the road!  We have always enjoyed LeapFrog devices.  I am happy to report that the LeapReader was not any different; it is an amazing device that my kids love, and I feel lucky to have been given this opportunity.

If you follow my blog, you have heard me talk about Bud and how picky he is when it comes to learning.  If it isn’t something really cool, he will not have anything to do with it.  He loves the LeapReader; when he gets home from school, it’s the first thing he asks for.  His teachers are even impressed with the impact the LeapReader has had on him.  He is learning to not only spell but also write his real name (Shawn).  Which is fabulous. I cannot tell you how exciting it is to watch Bud every single time he plays with the LeapReader.

Mattie also uses the LeapReader daily when the other kids go to school.  We call it her homework; she wants to go to school so badly.  Thanks to LeapReader, she is learning to read, write, and listen.  Rather than me holding the books up for her, she is now holding them up for me.  She loves using the LeapReader to write; it makes a fun noise when she does it right, and it only motivates her to do more.  Thanks, LeapFrog, for another fabulous device and a fun way for my kids to learn.

Things couldn’t have been more perfect: family, friends, fun LeapReader stuff, activity sheets, snacks, and drinks.  How could one go wrong?  Oh, and let’s not forget how cool Mattie thought she was because she thought it was her birthday party, lol.  I tried to explain it to her, but she wasn’t having it—it was her birthday party, her friends were there, family, and cupcakes—how could it not be?  Oh, and before I forget, I recently learned that I can download music my kids love to the LeapReader, Kidz Bop Music, as well as audio books, trivia challenges, and more.

LeapFrog really does make amazing educational toys for kids, and it’s something to think about for Christmas.  Since I gave one of the LeapReaders away, it now looks like I’m going to be buying Mattie her very own LeapReader as a Christmas gift.  She wants her in pink, and since she and her brother do not play nice when it comes to the leap reader, I decided I would get Mattie a pink leap reader.
