I have to be honest, shopping for a new baby is fun, so much fun that it’s hard to go overboard especially if you are a new mom. The only thing I purchased before my baby shower was my crib, but I wanted to purchase all the cute cloths, shoes, blankets, bedding, and toys. Luckily, I had people in my life who helped me with everything from my baby registry to packing for the hospital.
Everyone says, “Buy diapers and wipes,” they never tell you to get different sizes of diapers so they can be used as baby grows. Lucky for me, my mom taught me a lot. I did not have to purchase diapers until after Mattie was a year old. My mom and brother really helped my husband and I out on this one. When my brother planned Shawn’s diaper party he told everyone who came to buy different sizes of diapers, and my mom did the same. It worked out GREAT, I didn’t need to buy diaper for over a year.
When I was pregnant with Mattie I honestly didn’t have a clue about anything. If it wouldn’t have been for my sister-n-law and mom I probably would have spent money on itty bitty cute newborn clothing, not realizing how quickly they grew. Thankfully, they were there to help guide me in the right direction, help me with my, and tell me about all the items that new moms need for my baby registry.
However, after I had Matte I found several things that I wished I would have added to my baby registry.
Four Must-Haves for Your Baby Registry
Now that Shawn and I are going to try to have another baby, I have been making a list of must have baby registry items. Here are four things I have on my baby registry list that I did not have the first time.
Whether you nurse, or bottle feed our baby the nursing pillows are awesome. You spend plenty of time feeding your baby, so you and baby both need to be comfortable. The pillow helps offer you and baby more support while you are feeding.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciated everyone buying different sized diapers for Mattie. Not purchasing diapers for the first year of Mattie’s life saved us a lot of money, gave me time to adjust to all the changes financially, and a little extra money to spend on other things we needed.
Baby Bath
I know people give their baby a bath in the sink, but I couldn’t do it. My mom gave the kids plenty of baths in the sink, but I liked the baby bath. Babies are slipper, and they love to wiggle around in the bath, especially once they start enjoying the baths. Having a tub for baby helped make bath time more fun, and safer.
I cannot tell you how thankful I was that we had a travel system while Mattie was little. I can think of a dozen times the travel system made life easier, and even more times I did not have to wake up the baby to put her in her car seat. Everyone says you are going to need a car seat and stroller, but nobody ever says travel system. Which is definitely the way to go. The cool thing about the travel system is while you are strolling and all of a sudden baby becomes sleepy it’s no big deal. The travel system allows you to slide baby’s car seat out of its base and place it on your stroller without ever waking baby. Of course, it goes back from the stroller to the car just as easily, and it sure makes life a lot easier on you and baby.
I wish I would have known about Levana’s Oma+ Movement Monitor before now.
This is one of my new favorites. I cannot count the times I would check on the kids while they were sound asleep, I don’t think I ever fully slept because I was always worried. Which is why I know so many new moms are going to appreciate the Oma+ as much as I do. The Oma+ is an awesome cordless, battery-powered movement monitor. Simply clip it to your little ones diaper and it senses the smallest movements around the belly button area.
The Oma + is completely wireless so it is safe for baby to sleep wearing it clipped to their diaper. The movement monitor is battery-powered so there is not any dangerous cords near your baby’s bed. It includes a long-lasting battery, and battery life indicator lights so you can always be sure your Oma+ is working.
If the movement monitor detects complete stillness for more than 15 seconds it will vibrate gently against you baby’s tummy to help encourage the return of regular abdominal movements. If the movement monitor detects complete stillness for more than 20 seconds an alarm will loudly beep to wake you and help rouse baby. If you hear the loud beep you will know your baby needs your immediate attention. The Oma+ can also be set to detect weak and irregular movements from baby. The light will flash orange, and a different tone will sound if abdominal movement is occurring less than 8 times per minute.
I wish I would have had Levana’s Oma+ while Mattie was little. I can already tell you it’s on the top of my must have baby items for our next baby.
