Planning a holiday trip with kids can be stressful.  Gosh, traveling with kids can be stressful, especially without proper planning.  Whether you’re loading up the car or flying on a jet plane, there are certain things to consider before your holiday trip with kids.  I mean, the last thing you want to do is be away from home and not have everything you need, especially if you’re going to be without a vehicle or on a road trip with kids.

Adding children to the mix can often make things more complicated.  It’s important to remember traveling can be hard on kids because of mixed up sleeping schedules, being uncomfortable, impatient, bored and excited all at the same time can be overwhelming.

It’s easy to expect children to act like little adults whether we’re traveling by car or plane, behave, sit still and wait quietly.  However, you know as well as I do that isn’t going to happen, and it’s not fair for us to expect those results either.  Rather than allowing yourself to be stressed out or set unreal expectations for your children during this already stressful season here are a few tips to help you have fun traveling with kids during the holidays.

Family Travel: 7 Tips For Planning a Holiday Trip With Kids

If you’re planning on traveling with kids there are a few things you can do to make your trip with kids less stressful.

Here are a 7 tips for planning a holiday trip with kids.

  • Making a list and checking it twice – Santa shouldn’t be the only person making a list and checking it twice!  If you start planning your trip and making a list of everything you’ll need now you’re less likely to forget something important, which will cut back on stress.  There’s nothing worse than getting halfway to your destination and realizing you forgot your Chloraseptic® for your child’s sore throat.
  • Think fun – Think of things to help you, and your child have a good time.  If you’re taking a road trip be sure to think of activities you can take part in together and apart – car games, read, tell jokes, spend some time talking.  We are all going to want a little quiet time, so bring along books, tablets, games, colors, and anything else that will help keep the kids busy at least half way enjoying the trip.    Oh, and don’t forget to sing Christmas carols!  It’s that time of year, and time to get into the holiday season.
  • Snacks – We all get hungry, especially when we’re traveling.. Don’t forget to bring along snacks that travel well, and if you’re traveling on a plane you’ll want to consider TSA’s rules.
  • Leave super late or super early – We like to leave late because my husband would rather drive at night, and the kids sleep most of the trip.  If you’re not up for the night driving try and get to bed super early so you can be up and out the door before the sun comes up.  A sleepy child is easier to travel with, especially on a long road trip with kids.
  • Prepare of weather – Be sure to consider where you’re heading and what the weather will be like.  Trust me, don’t assume you know the weather conditions and be caught off guard.
  • Prepare for the unexpected – Be sure to bring along an extra change of clothing for you and the kids.  You never know when you’re going to need them, and it’s better to be prepared for this sort of things than to not.  If you have a layover or need to spend an extra night somewhere due to weather, you’ll be ready.  If you’re traveling by car, it might be a good idea to purchase an extra gallon of water in the car just to be safe.
  • Almond Oil – Massage Almond Oil into your hair, starting at the roots massage it all the way down to the tips.   Leave on hair overnight and wash as normal when you shower.
  • Aloe Gel – Using Aloe Vera gel by adding it to your shampoo and allowing to sit for 5 to 10 minutes can help you get shinier hair.
  • Yogurt – I love eating yogurt but did you know you can use it on your hair?  Yes, apply a thin layer and work into hair allow to sit for 15 to 30 minutes and wash as standard.
  • Washing – Washing your hair too often can cause it to become dry.  Avoid daily washing and shoot for every other day or longer if possible.
  • Beer – I know this might sound odd, but a flat beer.
  • Don’t forget necessities – It’s the time of year for colds and it never fails when we’re getting ready to head out for our holiday travels one of the kids gets sick.  Be sure to bring along a First Aid kit and toss in any medication you might need along the way.  It’s better to have it and not need it than is to need it and not have it, especially while you’re away from home and your comfort area.  You can include things like Choloraseptic® Sore Throat Spray, Choloraseptic® Sore Throat Lozenges, Choloraseptic® Sore Throat Plus Coating Protection.

If you’re heading out on the road for a holiday trip with kids be sure to be prepared.
