This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gro-ables for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mattie, she is my muddy child.  Ever since she was old enough to go outside, she has loved the mud and dirt.  Preferably mud, but dirt will do, lol.  It’s not wonder she enjoys gardening as much as she does.  Mattie and I recently planted a Gro-able, which are awesome if you have not heard of them yet.  Gro-ables are a new products from Miracle-Gro, which are designed for people who are new to gardening, extremely easy to use, and guaranteed to grow, when used as directed.

Mattie has been bugging me and bugging me to get her a plant, and the Gro-able has been the perfect way to introduce Mattie into the world of gardening.  Let’s face it, you do not get the true joy of gardening until you grow something for yourself.  Not to mention how much a child can learn from gardening.

Mattie’s little Gro-albe is still a little sprout, but it will not be long and she will get to enjoy the excitement of being able to cook with something homegrown.  She has already made me promise to let her cook dinner when her plant is big, and has been practicing her famous chicken soup recipe in her spare time.  She did promise there wouldn’t be dirt and rocks, it’s only how she practices, lol.

Even the ducks come up from the back to watch Mattie practice her famous soup recipe.  It’s funny, they just lay down in the front yard and watch her.  They will stay up front as long as she is outside, and watch her make her famous soup, which of course has plenty of Basil in it, since that is what she is growing..

Gardening helps teach children plenty of great lessons about life, and of course I enjoy it because I get to spend time with my children doing something fun.  Here are a few things children learn from gardening.

Ten Things Children Learn from Gardening with Miracle-Gro’s Gro-ables.

  • This one is for parents, but there is nothing like spending time with your children, and watching them learn and grow.  Gardening has not only been rewarding
  • Children learn where certain foods come from.
  • Hard work pays off.
  • Gardening can teach children that no matter how much they want to quite something, or skip it they cannot.  When you skip watering, or don’t want to take care of your plant it can die.
  • Gardening can teach children how valuable life is.  Mattie has learned just how special life is, and even told me thank you for taking care of her so she could grow up like her flower.  I don’t think fully understands everything, but I do know she understands it a lot better now.
  • Gardening teaches children about handwork, and what it feels like to not give up.  There is nothing like planting a seed, and watching it grow into something beautiful because you worked hard.
  • Gardening can help children learn to be responsible.
  • Children can learn the importance of taking care of things.
  • Learning where fresh food comes from can also help them have a better understand about nutrition.
  • Gardening is a great way for kids to build self-confidence.
