6 Things To Do In San Diego During The Winter Months

If you have not had the chance to visit San Diego during the winter months you’re missing out, especially if you come from a place that’s cold.  San Diego is like a breath of fresh air in the winter months, and one of our favorite places to visit because we can load the family up for a road trip to San Diego.  My husband and I don’t travel by plane with the kids due to my son’s medical condition, which is fine because we have a blast driving, and with places like San Diego close enough for a road trip who needs to fly.

6 Things To Do In San Diego During The Winter Months

Whether you’re traveling with the family, or on a romantic getaway you’ll find plenty of fun in the wonderful city of San Diego, even in the off-season.

The Beaches

You cannot visit San Diego and not check out some of the amazing beaches.  You don’t even need to get down next to the water for a breath-taking views.

San Diego International Auto Show

Two years ago my husband and I went to the San Diego International Auto Show.  Everyone wants a new car for Christmas right, expecially once you see the cars at this car show.  WOW, if you have a chance to attend the San Diego International Auto Show I recommend it.  You will have to check for the exact dates, but it’s normally after the holidays I believe.  You’ll find a huge selection of cars, it’s fun, and the cars are amazing.

Drive-Thru Christmas Lights

You might have heard of the drive-thru Christmas Lights in San Diego at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Holiday of Lights display.  There is more than 400 animated scenes, with lights.  Viewers drive around the world-famous Del Mar Racetrack and see some of your holiday favorites.

Everyone Loves the Grinch

Watch “How The Grinch Stole Christmas!” at the Old Globe Theater.  The performance runs until the end of from the middle of November until the end of December.

Visit The Parks

Don’t forget to stop by the theme parks in San Diego.  You’ll find SeaWorld San Diego, Disney California Adventure Park, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags, LEGOLAND California, Knott’s Berry Farm, and several more well know theme parks that are totally worth visiting.

Whale Watching

This is still on my bucket list of things to do, and next year you’ll find me enjotind whale watching San Diego.

If you didn’t already know every year the grey whales make their annual migration from the Bearing Sea to the warm waters in Mexico and southern California to breed during the winter months.  The grey whale is one of the largest mammals in the world, and one of the most beautiful creatures on earth.

When the mommy whales are ready to have their babies they do so in the shallow bays and lagoons, and are swimming within 30 minutes are they are born.  Pretty cool right!  The caves then stay with their moms for several months.  The bond between a mommy grey whale and her calve is strong.

My husband and I love to travel, we’re able to break away from out daily life several times a year for family vacations, as well as a husband and wife getaway.  Over the years we have stayed with Marriott several times, and we’re always impressed with the hospitality.  My husband and I recently went on a 2nd honeymoon to the same place we place we took our original honeymoon, we stayed in the same Marriott Hostel located on the River Walk in San Antonio, TX.  The hotel was amazing, located in the perfect spot for us to enjoy The River Walk and never need to drive anywhere.  The staff was amazing, they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, and we’re as comfortable as possible.  It was just the way I remembered it on our first honeymoon.

I’m picky about where I stay when we go on vacation.  I expect to be treated a certain way, it’s hard enough being away from home.  Marriott has is one of my favorite hotels, regardless of where we stay, or how long we’re going to be there I’m always happy with Marriott.

Marriott International is the leading hospitality company with over 3,800 properties in over 74 countries and territories around the world.

I have never been to San Diego, but if I ever did visit I would go to the beach (of course), I’d go Whale Watching, and I would go to SeaWorld. I love that great infographic.

I would have to see the lights. That would be at the top of my list, followed by whale watching. I can only imagine actually seeing one swimming.

I never knew so much about Grey Whales – thanks! We’ve been talking about them for the last hour thanks to your infographic. We’ve been to SD in the Summer, but I guess now we have to plan an of-season trip to see the whales.
