When Shawn and I first got married we both worked full-time, and had more time and money for date nights ideas outside of the house. Fast forward, and here we are parents to four children, who have a hard time sneaking out for a date night. Over the years we have had our fair share of issues, but realized how important date night ideas are to help keep our marriage alive. Plus, home date nights can be some of the best date nights you’ll have if you are open minded to them. Date night ideas should not be forgotten, and there are so many date night ideas to make it perfect. Honestly, I have had more fun having date nights at home than going out for dinner and movie.
11 At Home Date Nights Ideas
Shawn and I make it priority, once a week to set aside time together. It might involve putting the kids to bed early, but we turn off all the techie stuff, and focus on one another. Heck sometimes we might involve the kids too, it’s our life, we made it together, and we both cherish everything about it. If you are looking for ways to have date night at home here are a few of our favorite things to do together.
- Video Games – Okay, I said all techie stuff off, but we LOVE to stay up until odd hours of the morning playing Medal of Honor. I think my husband fell more in love with them when I leaner how much I loved the game, and less when he realized I am better than him at it lol. (AM TOO BABE)!
- Candles – Who cares if it is mac & cheese, light those candles, and giggle. It always makes for an interesting night. Plug, being cheesy was never so much fun.
- Hot bath – We are blessed with a tub with jets, but we have always enjoyed long hot baths together.
- Make Pizza – I don’t’ know what is so fun about making pizza together, but it’s great! Pizza never turns out that great. I think it is because we forget to pay attention to the pizza, which is fun and gives us an excuse to eat out, but it was fun lol.
- Breakfast for dinner in bed – We take turns on who cookies, eat breakfast for dinner in bed, and watch a movie we have both been waiting to see.
- Just chat – Some of the best date nights at home we have had are just us sitting at the kitchen table, or in bed talking about things that have happened, how we meet, whatever the wind blows our way. We have no plans, and just go with the flow. It’s perfect!
- Funny YouTube Videos- There is nothing like watching funny YouTube videos. Yes, again something techie, but it’s not our phones, and there is no checking email allowed. Only YouTube, and laughter!
- Stars – In the summer we head out to the trampoline, and bounce around like we were kids again. Needless to say, we don’t jump for long before we end up laying down looking at the stars.
- Movie Marathon – There is nothing like watching the entire season of Breaking Bad, lol. That’s the last movie marathon we had, and we still have not finished. One day I suppose we will.
- Fondue – Nothing says it better than melted chocolate. Buy some fruit, cake, pretzels, or whatever else you like for dipping.
- Board Games – There are a few board games we enjoy playing. If you don’t already have a favorite they are fairly cheap so start experimenting.
- Picnic in your bedroom and a movie – Make a nice picnic basket, filled with sandwiches, and watch a movie you both enjoy. You an even sneak into the kitchen and make s’mores on the stove.
- Watch a Movie in Bed with Ice Cream for Two Please – Pick a movie, and try a new flavor of ice cream or even better Gelato for two! Something you have never tried before, and have a super sweet date night sharing ice cream right out of the carton. It’s breaking every rule you teach your kids, so make sure they are asleep.
Your date night doesn’t have to be expensive or fancy. Heck half the time we are in our most comfy PJ’s, as long as we are together and smiling the mission is accomplished. At home date night’s can involve anything, but the way I try to think about it is my date night needs to involve all of my favorite things which is my husband (kids who are in bed, lol).
