If you are looking for some exciting and fun things to do with kids, you may just want to stick around and read this post. You might find a way to create some beautiful memories with your kids.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I can honestly say I am excited for school to start, but I will miss having the kids around all day. While I enjoy having the kids around and doing things with them,. I have to admit, it’s also nice to have a little mommy time to clean the house and work, and I do look forward to getting time to myself. So I figured we would make the best of it and have fun before school starts.
10 Affordable Things To Do With Kids
There are all sorts of affordable things to do with kids, but here are a few of our favorite ways to spend time with the kids before they head back to school.
Park: My kids always enjoy going to the park. Pack up a healthy lunch and head for a day of fun in the sun.
Visit Family: If you have family that lives close and you are able to make a run before school starts to visit them, do it. My parents came to visit us, and I really wish we would have planned one more visit to see grandma and grandpa this summer. The kids always look forward to seeing them.
Crafts: Do something fun with the kids. We recently made coat racks, and it was a blast. The kids painted them, and I will hang them in their room. It’s fun, affordable, and something they can give to their children when they are old enough to have them, like 30 or something.
Pool Party: Use the pool as much as you can before the kids head back to school. We have invited over a few of the kids friends and let them have fun in the pool. It’s totally affordable and lots of fun. Be sure and get something for the kids to snack on; watermelon or ice cream from Walgreens always seems to be a good option in our home.
Movie Night: If you don’t already do movie night, why not grab some ice cream from Walgreens and have a fun, sweet movie night? It’s fun; you can let the kids pick the movie and enjoy time with the kids before school starts.
Movies: I don’t know if they have a free movie day where you are from, but most places seem to have a free movie day, or at least offer a discount once a week or something. Check with your local movie theater or drive-in; they might even do something fun for the kids before school starts too.
Camping: It’s not too late to plan a camping trip, and it’s totally affordable.
Backyard camping: My kids talked me into backyard camping last summer, and it was a blast. Before that, I had not slept in a tent in the backyard since I was a child, and it was fun. We have our back-to-school backyard camping party tomorrow night.
Ice Cream Party: We just had a fun ice cream party with the family: my husband, the kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. It was a last-minute thing because nobody told me everyone was coming into town (thanks, babe). Yea, he “forgot” to tell me.
Anyway, I went to our local Walgreens, grabbed a few kinds of ice cream, and pulled out my fun decorating supplies. Naturally, the kids picked chocolate ice cream cones with fun faces. Either way, it was a great way to spend the evening with the kids before they head back to school and are in bed at 8pm.
Walgreens has all sorts of yummy ice cream to choose from: Magnum, Klondike, Breyer, Fratare, and even Popsicle. I’m going to have to agree with the kids that old-fashioned Breyers chocolate ice cream on a cone is the bomb! On the other hand, my husband would say they are all fabulous, as long as there is chocolate in there somewhere.
Whether you are looking for affordable things to do with the kids before school starts or just want to enjoy ice cream, it’s perfect for the summer nicest with the family. Plus, when you pull out the decorating supplies, it just makes things that much more fun!
Check it out; you don’t even have to have a cone to make a cone face. Bud doesn’t like the cones but will grab some chocolate ice cream, and we couldn’t give him ice cream without eyes and a mustache. Cute right.
Be sure to swing by your local Walgreens the next time you and the kids want a sweet frozen treat! Without a doubt, you’ll find something for everyone at your next nice cream party!
