My Promise To My Children

I love my children, and I wanted to say thanks to JOHNSON’S® Baby Family and The Motherhood for sponsoring this post and giving me the opportunity to not only share JOHNSON’S® Baby Family Promise to moms, but my promise to my children!

My three older children are my stepchildren, but we never say that in our house.  The only time I refer to them in that way is when I am trying to explain something.  Anyway, so you’ll better understand, I said it.  I don’t like the word stepchildren, because they are mine; I just didn’t give birth to them.  At some point their moms decided drugs were more important.  My oldest daughter’s mom has been gone her whole life because drugs are more important, and my other two lost their mom because drugs were made a priority.

It was two weeks before my husband and I got married, and we ended up with Bud and Vayda.  I’m not going to lie, it was hell.  I was used to Catie being around; she was 7 at the time, but the other two living in our home was not something I had given much thought to.  When it happened, I really thought their mom would come back around and realize what she had given up for drugs, but it was too late.  Three months after the kids moved in, we found out their mother had passed away.  It was horrible, and to this day I wish they had their mother in their lives.  Filling a mother’s shoes isn’t something anyone can do. All we can do is our best to love and support them the best we know how and never try to take their mother’s place.

BABY

Someone asked me the other day if I felt differently for my other children than I did for my daughter, and without a doubt the answer is no!  I would do anything for any of my children; I am their mother, and they are my babies.  Even my 15-year-old daughter is and will always be my baby.

my promise to my children poem

Anyway, it wasn’t long ago I read this poem, “My Promise To My Children,” and it made me think about my promises to my children.  My promise is simple: to love them always and forever.  See, but a mother loving a child is not that simple.  It’s this powerful, unexplainable, totally unconditional love that is more powerful than anything I have ever experienced before.  I didn’t know what true, honest, unconditional love was until I became a mom.

My Promise To My Children

I promise to always love you! I promise to not be perfect. Let’s face it, being your mom and caring about you as much as I do is going to make me freak out at times. Say things I don’t mean, maybe act a little crazy, do stupid things, please remember I am not perfect.  All the times I freak out will be because I don’t know how else to act when I am scared or worried, because I care so deeply about you.  When I say things I don’t mean, I promise to say sorry and talk to you about what I did wrong.

I also promise to give you all the good stuff too!  Lots of hugs, kisses, talks, time, attention, understanding, forgiveness, and no matter what, I promise to love you more than I love anyone else in the whole wide world!  I promise that no matter what happens, I will figure out a way to take care of you. Even if it’s hard, you can always rely on me and put your trust in me.

my promise to always love you

I promise you can always count on me, not only as your parent but as your friend.  I promise I don’t expect you to be perfect; I know you will make mistakes, and that’s okay.  I promise to help you learn from those mistakes and be open-minded enough to learn from you as well. I’ll admit when I am wrong and do my very best to help you grow up into the amazing human being God placed you on this earth to be.  There will be consequences needed, and you probably won’t enjoy them, but they will be done because I love you.  I promise to do everything in my power to keep you safe and to teach you how to grow into a responsible, loving, caring adult.

I promise you everything I do will be because I love you, and even though I am not perfect and don’t always do everything right, I will always do my very best.

JOHNSON’S® Baby Promise To Moms

JOHNSON’S® Baby Family loves babies, and the last thing they weren’t families to worry about is safety.  When they heard moms were worried about their products, they took matters into their own hands and decided to stand up and change their product formulas.  They did this, not because of safety but simply to give moms peace of mind.

Johnson’s Baby is always committed to listening to moms because they know our children are our world, reasons for getting up every single day, and the products we use on them need to be safe.  Although their products have always been safe, they took a stand to change their formulas to give us peace of mind.  In 2013, they met the Safety and Care Commitment to remove formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and reduce the traces of 1,4-dioxane from all their baby products, and they did around the world!

Most of their new and improved baby products no longer have parabens, which is ahead of their 2015 promise to you.  The new and improved Johnson’s Baby products will continue to roll out until they meet all of their commitments.  You can learn more about their timeline and policy here.

To help express their commitment to babies and families everywhere, they made “The Promise” video.  It’s an awesome video.  This video is also on YouTube and is an open letter to moms showing Johnson’s® Baby’s scientists and their families coming together to build an origami stork mobile, which symbolizes the delivery of their promise to always listen to moms.  I could go on and on about this video and how amazing I think Johnson’s® Baby is for their movement, but I will let you watch this touching video for yourself.

It’s inspired by a Japanese legend that folding 1000 origami cranes will result in a wish granted and a promise fulfilled, which is not only an amazing message but thought to be a big labor of love.  Changing their products was their labor of love for moms and babies.  In the video, I love how they used storks since they represent the delivery of babies.
