4 Tips For Purchasing Kids’ Shoes For Halloween

Published: Updated: 4 comments

I wrote this post back in 2013 as part of a sponsored partnership with Mom Central Consulting and Stride Rite! While things have changed, the good news is Stride Rite still has some great light-up shoes and Ms. Rachel’s shoes, which is exciting because my granddaughter LOVES Ms. Rachel.

Choosing a Halloween costume can be much more stressful than it needs to be. It can be so stressful that many parents, myself included, forget to consider kids’ shoes for Halloween. My kids change their minds 582 times before I finally speak up and tell them they need to make them up so I can purchase their costumes. That’s what happened this year too, especially with my youngest daughter Mattie. I cannot tell you how many Disney Princesses we went through before I finally jumped online and purchased an Ariel costume. I realized that purchasing the costume was the only way to put an end to the chaos.

4 Tips For Purchasing Kids’ Shoes For Halloween

  • Disney Princesses are quite popular with young girls, but finding matching shoes is a bit more difficult. There are a few things I think about before I purchase kids’ shoes for Halloween:
  • Wearability—I constantly try to be creative when it comes to purchasing kids’ shoes for Halloween. My kids don’t always approve, but they don’t realize how much it costs to get them all in costumes that are only good for one night. Sure, I want my kids to have a wonderful time, but I want to do it as cost-effective as possible.
  • Cost—If my kids are able to wear them to school, the store, or out in public after Halloween, I will spend some extra money on their Halloween shoes.
  • Comfort—I have made the mistake of prioritizing cute over comfort. MISTAKE: Not only did my ears hurt from all the complaining, my poor daughter’s feet hurt from Mom not putting comfort first.

I’m the type of mom who doesn’t mind spending the money on kids’ shoes for Halloween, BUT I am not going to spend $50, or even $20 for that matter, on something that will be worn for Halloween. I already spend over $100 on costumes and makeup for the kids. I’m not about to spend money on shoes they will only wear once! Which is why I love the shoes for Halloween at Stride Rite!

Stride Rite has Halloween spirit, with fun, themed comfy shoes, and your little guy or girl can wear them again. They have some of the hottest costumes, such as

  • Disney Princess
  • Spider-Man
  • Captain America
  • Star Wars
  • Minnie Mouse

With brands like Jessica Simpson, Saucony, Sperry Top-Sider, Keds, and Stride Rite! I think you will be happy with the selection of kids’ and toddlers’ shoes for Halloween, as well as shoes for daily life. One of my favorite things about the toddler and kids’ shoes for Halloween at Stride Rite is that my daughter can wear them to Tuesday-Thursday school (it’s like pre-pre-preschool lol) or anywhere else we go. She likes the way they look, the lights, the sparkles, the fact that there is a Disney Princess on them, and that she can put them on all by herself. That is a big one; she gets frustrated when she cannot put her shoes on alone.

I know some of you are probably wondering why I am showing you a picture of Cinderella shoes for Halloween when Mattie is dressed up as Ariel. First, the answer is YES, you can purchase Ariel Halloween shoes from Stride Rite. Second, if Mattie hadn’t changed her mind, we would have matching shoes, lol. To be honest, she likes the shoes so much she doesn’t care. She looked at me very seriously and told me, “Mom, they are all princesses. It’s okay. “So there you have it, color no longer to be considered when matching; it’s all about the characters, BUT only if they are the Disney Princesses!

I know it looks as if you will not be able to see her shoes in the Ariel Halloween costume, but I will be shortening the costume just a bit so there is no tripping while we are out. The last thing I want to worry about is her tripping over her costume, lol.

The Disney Wish Lights Cinderella shoes are super cute, super sparkly, and still allow little girls to feel like they are putting on a royal shoe. Mattie just loves the lights, sparkles, and the fact that she can look down and see one of her favorite Disney princesses. These shoes have the new Wish Lights technology with a heart-shaped gem that changes from white to pink light several times a day, indicating when it’s time to make a wish. Now, tell me that isn’t cool!

I’m sure you can see in the pictures there is a little dirt on each of Mattie’s shoes for Halloween. It’s because she begged me to please let her wear them for her first day of Tuesday-Thursday school. She didn’t want the kids to say anything about her other shoes, which are brand new and whose toes twinkle. Man, she is getting good at talking Mom into things, and she is barely three! Watch out!

They also have leather and sequins, are easy for little ones to slip on, have mesh linings, and are breathable so my little Mattie doesn’t complain about being uncomfortable. The shoe fits her perfectly, and she has not complained about anything. Well, other than wanting another pair so she can have all the Disney princesses. Don’t tell her but I bought her another pair…  It’s our little secret, but she is going to be super happy when she finds out Mom bought her the Ariel shoes to match her costume.

Be sure to swing by and check out the Halloween Stride page. They have some great shoes, whether you are shopping for kids’ shoes for Halloween or just looking for some cute shoes for the fall.

I remember having to wear snow boots once for Halloween! That’s what you get for growing up in New England! Snow, and we still T or T’d – we’re a hearty lot.

I like that Stride has a Halloween site divided by characters or styles. It is important that the shoes/sneakers not just match the costume, but can be worn with other outfits after Halloween.
