Reasons To Get Pets Spayed or Neutered

Considering getting your furry family members spayed or neutered? We have put together a few reasons to consider taking your beloved for a trip to your local vet to get spayed or neutered.

There is no doubt I’m an animal lover. I don’t know where I would be today had I not had my animals in my life. I honestly do not believe I would be sitting here right now. During some of the most difficult times in my life, they brought me joy, put a smile on my face, and showed me unconditional love, and I do my best every day to make sure and show my furry family members I love them.

I recently had to put down my dog Red; it was difficult, and I miss him dearly, but I wasn’t the only one who grieved the loss of our beloved best friend; my animals did as well. I think my cat had the hardest time; I had to leave Red’s blanket on the floor until my cat was ready. Normally, he would lay on the bed, but after Red was gone, he slept on his blanket. They were the bestest of buds.

Animals are just so amazing, and they deserve to have the best lives possible, which is why I thought it was important to touch on the importance of spaying and neutering your animals.

Before we get started, I just want to let you know that I’m not a vet. This is based on research I have done because I believe in spaying and neutering our pets. If you have questions or concerns, it’s always best to consult with your vet.

Reasons To Get Pets Spayed or Neutered

Below are a few of the many reasons to spay or neuter your beloved furry family members.

Getting pets spayed or neutered can increase their life expectancy🐕

There are health benefits associated with spaying and neutering your beloved pets. According to aspca.org, spaying prevents uterine infections and can also decrease the incidence of breast tumors, and neutering prevents testicular cancer as well as some prostate problems. Spaying and neutering can also increase your pet’s life expectancy.

Animals are amazing; they all deserve to have loving homes. Unfortunately, this is not the case for all animals. The shelters are full of animals looking for a second chance at a loving forever home. Spaying and neutering is a way you can do your part to help stop the overpopulation crisis.

Spaying and neutering isn’t a cure all as far as behavior issues, but doing it early can help you and your pet avoid possible aggressive behaviors that may come later in life. Plus, they are less likely to want to roam when they know a female is in heat.

Cleaner Home🏡

Home is where the pet hair is, but it doesn’t have to be where your animals mark their territory, 😹. If you’ve ever had a male dog or cat that is still intact, marking their territory isn’t only problemsome; it’s accompanied by a strong, yucky smell🤢. If you neuter your male dogs and cats, they are less likely to try and mark their territory in your house.

A female dog stays in heat for a while, 2 weeks or longer. If you get your female spayed, you won’t have unwanted male dogs hanging around your house. You also won’t have to deal with putting your dog in diapers to avoid drops of blood on your floor. And if your dogs sleep in your bed. Well, let me just put it this way: been there, done that, never want to do that again, and I don’t recommend it👎.

Keeping Your Pets Safe🐶

It’s been my experience that male cats and dogs will roam if they know a female is in heat. Getting your pets spayed or neutered is a step in the right direction to keep them home and safe. Of course, this isn’t a fix all for keeping them home and safe, but it can certainly help.

Spaying and neutering just makes sense all the way around, in my opinion.

If you are worried about the cost associated with getting your pet spayed or neutered, there are great programs available. You can likely contact your local shelter or vets office for details. You can also utilize the internet to find programs available in your area.
