If you color your hair, I’m sure you deal with the color fading. There is nothing worse than spending all that time coloring your hair, for it to fade right away. My daughter loves to color her hair all the fun colors! She’s young, I remember those days, and I want her to enjoy them as much as possible. She doesn’t every go too far, but she’s really started to like the bright red. It’s a good color on her, but she had a friend do her hair, and well, we’re still working on getting it fixed. I don’t want her to color it too much, because she has beautiful hair.

6 Tips To Prevent Hair Color Fading
Here are a few tips to help you stop hair fading so quickly.
Washing Before – Do not wash your hair for at least 24 hours before color treating it. Washing your hair will strip the oils from it, which will help maintain your color.
Heat – Do your best to keep the heat tools to a minimum, and if you use heat tools try to spritz on a heat-protective spray to help protect your hair.
Sun – The sun can bleach your hair, which means if you color it the sun can lighten it.
Pool – Stay out of the pool if you want your color to last. Chlorine can also bleach your hair, and make your color fade faster. If you go swimming try a swimming cap.
Water temperature – There’s nothing like a nice hot shower to relax you, and damage your hair follicles. I learned that red tones are hot water sensitive, and you should stick with lukewarm water.
The Nexus Color Assure system – This is by far our favorite for helping to keep hair from fading. We used this on Catie’s hair, and the results were GREAT. We have tried so many different things, and Nexxus is by far the best.

Before you jump in the shower use the Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer, for a normal person’s hair you’ll probably only need 5 pumps. My daughter has a lot, and I mean a lot of hair so she used 8 pumps and applied to dry hair starting with the ends of her hair, and working her way up to the roots. You don’t need a lot of it, just enough to notice your hair feels silky smooth, not drenched.
I know, putting something on that makes your hair silky soft before you get in the shower sounds somewhat crazy, but it works great.
The Nexus Pre-Wash Primer helps to lock in moisture, keep hair vibrant, increase softness, and works to seal and protect your hair by repelling water from entering its core. The Pre-Wash Primer is a sulfate-free and infused with clear oils like coconut, almond and Argan oil.
Almond oil does amazing things for your hair, it’s responsible for helping to lock moisture in, reduce breakage, and nourish hair. Coconut oil helps provide softness and elasticity. Argon oil helps improve the vibrancy and shine. Lastly, White Orchid Extract is known to help provide the hair with moisture. It works to help seal and protect the hair, by repelling water, which keeps it from entering at the core.
Cool, right? Yes, the Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer is as good as it sounds, and highly recommended.
Nexus Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo and Conditioner
Next she used Nexus Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo and Conditioner on to wash her hair. She always lets her conditioner sit for 5 to 10 minutes if not longer, while she does everything else. Her hair is picky about shampoos and conditioners, because she has such thick hair. Nexxus shampoo and conditioner does a great job, her hair is soft and smooth, easy to manage, and has moisture.
Nexus Color Assure Glossing Tonic
Finish using Nexus Color Assure Glossing Tonic, which does an amazing job on her hair. Simply spray a fine mist on your hair. It’s the finishing touch that gives hair an awesome shine, and makes Caties hair amazingly soft. She likes it because it helps to reduce her frizz, helps with styling, and doesn’t dull her hair.
This is Catie’s before we colored her hair. I made her wait until right before school started to color it, so she was ready to do something with it. I’m really not sure what happened to her hair, she had a friend do something with it. Which it looked super cute right after she did it, but it faded into this because she let her friend bleach the top of her head again. Needless to say she isn’t allowed to let her friends do her hair, especially when I’m not around, lol. She had been bugging me and bugging me to do it red again before school so it looks better, and she wants it all once color. One problem, I know how her hair is and it’s going to fade like it had every time before. Then the top turns this funky color, here we go again.
These are her after pictures. One week and three weeks after, I had to include the top of her head because that is where everything fades. As you can see her hair did fade a little, it’s not that BAM BRIGHT red. I personally like it better, but regardless of what I think there is no denying her hair doesn’t look dry and dull! It looks shiny, healthy and happy!
I’m not due for a coloring for two more weeks, but I had to try The Nexus Color Assure system for myself. I saw how well it worked for Catie, and how great it made her hair look.
